Rehearsal Update
Well, we have a cast! A huge congratulations to everyone who attended and took part in our auditions for Shrek back in March. You should all be proud of your efforts – there had clearly been a lot of work put in prior to audition day.
Our main cast was announced at the end of a very long day in March (and on our website), but we still have a few minor roles to cast for this production – which so many of you are capable of doing.
If you missed auditions or have had a change of heart, and would now like to be involved in Shrek (October 2022), please do let us know by contacting the team at shrek@phoenixtheatregroup.co.uk – we would like to have an idea about the number of people to expect on the first rehearsal. We are still welcoming new and returning members between the ages of 11 and 21 years old.
Rehearsals will commence on Sunday 8th May at Offenham Village Hall between 2.00-5.30pm. We will continue to accept members joining the cast up until the second Sunday rehearsal (Sunday 15th May). Because we have such a tight rehearsal schedule, we also ask that you let us know as far in advanced as you can, about any absences, so we can plan around it. The rehearsal schedule will be shared with everyone on the first rehearsal, but it is really important that you can commit to this production!
And don’t forget that tickets are already on sale, so make sure you book your tickets as soon as possible, to ensure you don’t miss out! Tickets can be booked at the Henrician website: https://www.henrician.org/events/shrek/

Shrek the Musical! October 2022 will see our youth members back on stage and we are excited to welcome you to be involved.
We are in the process of preparing for our audition day, which will be on Sunday 6th March 2022 at the Henrician Theatre. There will be a workshop from 11am and auditions will commence at aprox 1pm until 6pm.
If you are aged between 11 (as of October 2022) and 21 years old, we would love for you to be involved in this Shrek-tacular musical.
Please find below audition pieces etc for each part. Please read and learn these parts for audition day.
We would ask all those who want to audition to let us know you're coming. This allows us to manage numbers on the day and keep everyone safe.
It would also be helpful to know which part you want to audition for. Whilst we can only see you audition for 1 part, we will consider you for other parts If you're still interested, please email us at shrek@phoenixtheatregroup.co.uk. Please stae your name, age and contact email and phone number, plus the parrt you want to audition for and finally if you want to be considered for other parts if unsuccessful for your preferrred part.
We really do need to be aware of the number of people we are expecting at the Theatre and, as always, we will be following the current and necessary COVID advice and guidelines.

* Scroll down to find the audition pieces *
SHREK: Main character. A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairy-tale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. We are looking for someone who: can sing well; can carry a show (Shrek is on stage for most of the production); can do a rough and ready accent (Scottish, if possible); can build a good character; this is a male part.
FIONA: The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt and multi-talented, she is not an ordinary princess. We are looking for someone who: can sing well; can be feisty yet comical; can dance well (you will need to do some tap dancing!); can build a good character; this is a female part.
DONKEY: A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad’s guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek’s looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but also an optimistic with heart. We are looking for someone who: can sing well; can be confident and interactive with an audience; can build a good character; this is a male part.
LORD FARQUAAD: The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of princesses to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. We are looking for someone who: is willing to (potentially) work on their knees; can be a likeable villain; can build a good character; this is a male part.
DRAGON: A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. We are looking for someone who: a strong and soulful singer; who can work alongside (a rather large) puppet; this part could be filled by more than one individual; this is a female part.
THREE BLIND MICE: Part of the fairy tale creatures. They are additional characters/singers in a song with Donkey. We are looking for someone who a strong and soulful singer; this part is for three people; this is a female part.
There are also numerous fairy tale creature roles for chorus, ensemble roles and other parts too! You DO NOT need to audition for these fairy tale creature roles or to be part of the chorus.
Final things to remember:
Please bear in mind that we are living in somewhat uncertain times at the moment and a change in Government guidance may dictate a potential delay or postponement of the production, rehearsal and auditions. We are therefore asking you to be patient and work with us in being flexible in your approach to the show.
Please have a good look at all of the information above and if you have any questions, email: shrek@phoenixtheatregroup.co.uk
We can’t wait to see you soon.
