BACK TO THE 80’S
…The totally awesome musical!!
Well? Would you have bought a ticket to see such a show? Perhaps?……..Well for those of you who don’t know, this is the title of the show that we could have been recovering from instead of our recently successful production of High School Musical.
As a Committee we weren’t too sure about this show and the original proposal was rejected on the grounds that we thought that the title wouldn’t sell tickets – and that the music was too cheesy even for the “Eighties”. Keith threw in a suggestion from left field that had us all aghast – how about High School Musical.
We recognised that it would be a challenge – especially when we realised that we were all familiar with a studio produced soundtrack rather than the live score that would be required. The show is obviously new – no suppliers of scenery, nobody else had performed it in our region and despite its current popularity we didn’t really know whether we would be able to fill the theatre.
For those of you who were able to get a ticket – and there were many that weren’t I hope that you’d agree that the show was generally very good. There were some outstanding performances within the cast,confirmed by the comments made by many audience members after each performance. We couldn’t have hoped for better ticket sales and it was no accident, the result of much foot-slogging and marketing by Claire herself.
The membership enquiries since the show have been high – with many now registered in advance of the 2008 programme. I’ve even heard a rumour about HSM 2…… Aaaaaaaaarrrghhhh!
